Visual Supports and Structured Teaching Templates - Free SEN Resource

Created By: lboyd01

A printable pack of 8 editable templates for visual timetables, first–then boards, task sequences, choice boards, work systems, transition cards, emotion check-ins and plain-language explanatory stories.

What it is
This pack holds eight A4 Word templates (.docx) for making visual supports at home, in school or in care settings. The templates show daily routines, explain tasks step by step, offer choices, help with transitions and let people share how they feel. Each template opens with a guide page that explains what it is, who it suits and how to use it, with practical tips.

All templates are fully editable and printer-friendly. They’re black and white with light shading, so they photocopy cleanly, and the cut-out cards are spaced for easy cutting and laminating. The templates contain no symbols, so you can add your own photos, drawings or the symbol set you already use.

The 8 templates:
  • Visual Timetable: a day planner with times and “Done” boxes, a 6-step horizontal strip and 12 activity cards
  • First–Then Board: a two-step board, a three-step First–Next–Then board and swap cards
  • Task Sequence: an 8-step routine planner, a worked handwashing example and a 5-step strip
  • Choice Board: boards with 2, 6 and 12 choices
  • Work System: a planning sheet, a task strip with a “Finished” box and matching number tags
  • Transition Cards: cards with wording already printed, blank cards, a Now–Next board, a 5-4-3-2-1 countdown and a “Something is different today” change card
  • Emotion Check-In: a feelings board, a 5-point feelings scale and a weekly check-in log
  • Plain-Language Explanatory Story: a planning sheet, a worked dentist-visit example and blank story pages
Who it is for
The pack suits parents, carers, teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and support workers.
