Precision Teaching and Fluency Practice Templates - Free SEN Resource

Created By: lboyd01

A set of seven printable templates for running precision teaching and fluency practice with pupils. You get four one-minute probe sheets (sight words, phonemes, number facts and spellings), a daily timing record, a fluency aim setting sheet and a four-week progress chart. All files are editable A4 Word documents (.docx). Each one has a guidance page explaining what the template is, who it is for and how to use it, followed by a clean sheet ready to photocopy. The grids are blank Word tables, so you can type in your own words, sounds or facts before printing, or fill them in by hand.

Included:
  • Sight word probe sheet: a 6 x 12 grid for reading words aloud, with a running count column for quick scoring.
  • Phoneme probe sheet: an 8 x 12 grid with larger cells for letter sounds, digraphs and trigraphs.
  • Number facts probe sheet: a 5 x 11 grid for number bonds and times tables, used for spoken or written answers.
  • Spelling probe sheet: 30 numbered lines for dictated words, scored by whole words or correct letters.
  • Daily one-minute timing record: four weeks of results on one page, with space for notes and teaching decisions.
  • Fluency aim setting sheet: records the starting score, a comparison with a fluent pupil, the agreed aim and review rules.
  • Progress chart: a landscape 20-day chart plotting correct answers and errors against the aim.
Who it is for
The pack is for teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs, intervention leads, tutors and home educators. It suits pupils who need extra practice to make reading, phonics, spelling or maths facts quick and automatic. That includes catch-up and intervention groups, pupils with SEND and pupils with dyslexic difficulties. It works in primary and secondary settings.

How to use it
Use the aim setting sheet to choose a small target set (usually 5 to 10 items), take a starting score and agree a fluency aim.
Write the targets into the matching probe sheet in random order and photocopy it so the same probe is used every day.
Time the pupil for exactly one minute each day and count the correct answers and errors.
Write each result on the daily timing record.
Plot the scores on the progress chart. Correct answers should rise and errors should fall. When the aim is met on two or three days in a row, move on to new targets. If progress stalls, change the teaching.
